AVAILABLE ON THE iPAD!

How to play

Press the GAME button to get started. You control the leftmost number. In the screenshot shown here your number is 3. The invading numbers approach from the right side of the LED screen.
Your objective is to aim your number to match one of the invaders, and then shoot it. Press the . button to cycle through digits 1-9 and then to the n digit.
Once you’ve targeted one of the invaders by matching your number up with one of those approaching you press the + fire button. The invader will disappear and be replaced by another.

A total of 16 invaders will attack you each level. If they manage to reach the left side of the LED panel then you’ve been hit. You lose a life and need to start the level again. You can tell how many lives you have by checking the horizontal lines next to your ship. You’ll have 1 line per life you have left. In the example above the player has one life left. You have 3 lives in which to get as high a score as possible. The highest score is displayed when the game starts up.

Scoring

Each time you get to a new level the LED panel will temporarily show you the level you just completed and your score. Points are scored every time you hit an invader and the closer that invader was to the right side of the panel the higher the score will be for its kill.

The mothership

Everytime that the numbers you shot add up to a multiple of 10 a mothership will appear among the invaders. For example, if you start the game and shot the invaders in the order 5-7-2-6 then a mothership will appear as the sum of your kills adds up to 20. Kill the mothership by aiming to the n symbol and fire. A hit on the mothership rewards 150 points.

We hope you enjoy playing Number Invaders. For those of you who have vague memories of desperately thumbing away on your calculator while your teacher wasn’t looking back in the early 80’s we hope that this modern equivalent captures some of the spirit of the original.
